Security & Web Hosting

web securityWe all know a lot of hacks come via website injections, trojans, weak passwords and more! The bad part of this is visitors to these websites then pick up the pay load, distribute it etc… all without the website own ever even knowing.

If you run a website, I am pretty certain it has probably been hacked in the past. It is not fun! You have been compromised and I hope you have a good back up! Most people that run a website don’t have a clue about backups, security, malware, and all the other bad things that can happen.

Even worse is when your website has been taken over and is not just emailing spam from the server that is load with malware. Not fun!

So how does the average person keep their website running and keep it safe from the bad guys?

Well the first part is you want to get a good quality web hosting company.  One company we highly recommend is SiteGround. You can read a great detailed review of SiteGround Web Hosting at https://whackahost.com/siteground-review/ where he goes into all the plans and why they are safe.

Listen if you are running a few websites it is usually a question of not if, but when it might get hacked so you at least want a web hosting company that is going to alert you if it were to get hacked. That is why we like Site Ground. They have daily scans and alert you as well as firewalls and extra security layers that the average website is going to need.

How about you? Has your website ever been hacked? I would love to hear more about it!

USA Muni market is slowly paying attention to cyber risks

U.S Muni market is trying its best to evaluate cyber risks

The rise in cyber attacks against the US has mostly hit the public sector but the attacks so far had very little impact on the $3.8 trillion municipal debt market. No issuer has yet been a victim of cyber security threat. Now it is beginning to change slowly.

S&P Global has started quizzing the cities and states about the cyber defenses they have in place and it has actually made some credit analysis look into the factor that cyber security risks do exist when they are looking at the bonds. Now they are trying to figure out how to evaluate cyber risks.

Cyber weapons used against ISIS turned out to be a disappointment

USA Cyberwarriors against ISIS have completely disappointed

The USA is increasingly working with secret cyber warriors and they are growing in numbers. In recent years, these cyber warriors have helped the USA to blow up centrifuges in Iran and helped turn towards electronic warfare and computer code hacking to sabotage the missile launches that North Korea has been planning to launch.

But their results have been mostly mixed. But when it came to using the same attack against the ISIS who are well known for using the internet, the results have been completely disappointing for the U.S. It is now evident that the arsenal these cyber warriors are using has reached its limit.

The cybersecurity industry will face massive worker shortfall by 2022

Cybersecurity worker shortfall to fall to critical levels by 2022 – report reveals

In the next five years, the number of jobs in the cyber security industry will face a massive shortfall of 1.8 million workers. This is an increase of 20% from 2015 estimates. This new figure was revealed through an ISC 2 survey.

But what is really driving this shortfall? If you look closely, it is apparent that companies are spending more and more on acquiring new technology rather than hiring professionals to tackle cyber security threats.

The report was constructed with help of employment data acquired through job boards, vendors, media, analysists, and governments. But whatever the case, its a real wake up call for companies to seriously consider putting in some investment in hiring more professional help otherwise there will be no one available to fight back attacks like the recent Wannacry ransomware that took down as many as 200,000 computers worldwide.

If you think being a manufacturer makes you safe from cyber criminals, think again

Even manufacturers aren’t safe from cyber criminals. Learn how you can fend off attacks

Being manufacturer doesn’t mean that you are safe from cyber criminals of the like that spread attacks like the recent Wannacry ransomware which took down as many as 200,000 machines worldwide.

The truth is that cyber criminals can easily hack their way into your IT infrastructure whether you’re a manufacturing company or now. When they finally gain access to your network, they can take control of your robots or machinery software and then can lock it down to ask ransom in return.

Vulnerabilities are present in nearly all kinds of computer software and there is a very little way of defending yourself from an attack. With the control of a machine, hackers can even change the way they operate. For example, if you’ve set the robot to cut a piece of metal at 2mm, they can control it to cut it at a different angle and dimensions, disrupting your production. This, if left unnoticed can produce highly negative results for you which can convert to massive loss.

So how do you protect yourself from cyber criminals? Experts would say to implement cyber technology at every nook and corner of your network, but the most important part is to introduce a cyber security culture at your manufacturing plant. Don’t forget that most attacks are successful because of human errors. Employees are easy to fool and that is where the hackers are focusing all their energies at. Next time your employee opens an email and clicks on a malicious link, down goes your entire network.

So start by educating your workforce about the threats cybercriminals pose. Teach them how to detect a scam and fight back small attacks. Then go to implementing high-end technology to stop hackers from taking over your machines by passing humans.

are cybersecurity businesses taking advantage of the wannacry ransomware attack?

If you haven’t heard already, last 2 weeks have been chaotic in the business world because of the Wannacry malware attack that took down as many as 200,000 machines in just a few days.

Now some cybersecurity companies are cashing on the attack by raising the prices of their services because right now the demand for cyber security is so high that it is almost impossible for businesses to not seek out help from professionals.

But do businesses really need to rely on cyber security companies or should they be more concerned about their own cybersecurity culture inside the business?
